Plumbing

Licensed

Plumbing problems rarely wait politely. A burst pipe or blocked drain can damage floors, walls and cabinetry within hours, so most plumbing requests are about stopping damage first and fixing the cause second.

Electrical

Licensed

Electrical work is the one area where doing it yourself is both illegal and genuinely dangerous. Whether a circuit keeps tripping or you are adding power to a renovation, the work has to be done and certified by a licensed electrician.

Locksmith

Lockouts are urgent by definition, and lock damage after a break-in needs same-day attention. Locksmith requests are usually about getting back inside safely, then making sure the property is secure again.

Roofing

A roof problem is easy to ignore until the first heavy rain. Leaks, lifted tiles and storm damage tend to worsen quickly, and the internal water damage usually costs more than the roof repair itself.

Carpentry

Carpentry covers everything from a sticking door to structural framing. It is the trade most often needed alongside others on a renovation, and the one that determines whether finishes sit square.

Painting

Painting is as much preparation as it is paint. The difference between a job that lasts two years and one that lasts ten is almost entirely in the surface work underneath.

Tiling

Tiling is unforgiving — bad falls in a shower or an unsealed wet area shows up as water damage months later. Most tiling requests are wet areas, floors, or fixing tiling someone else got wrong.

Flooring

Flooring changes how a whole house feels, and it is one of the few renovations that can be done in a day or two per room. Subfloor condition usually decides what is actually possible.

Plastering

Plastering is what makes walls look finished. Cracks, water stains and patched holes are the most common reasons people call, usually right before painting.

Landscaping

Landscaping ranges from a tidy-up to full structural work with retaining walls and drainage. Getting levels and water flow right early is what stops problems later.

Gardening

Regular garden maintenance is mostly about staying ahead of growth. It is also the most common recurring service for rentals and managed properties, where tidy grounds are part of the lease.

Fencing

Fencing is about boundaries, privacy, safety and often the neighbours. Pool fencing in particular has strict compliance rules that apply whether or not the pool is in use.

Decking

A deck is structural work that lives outdoors, which means both the build and the ongoing sealing matter. Older decks often need bearer and joist attention before the boards are worth saving.

Concreting

Concrete work is hard to undo, so preparation and drainage planning matter more than the pour itself. Driveways, slabs and paths are the bulk of residential concreting.

Cleaning

Cleaning requests split into two kinds: keeping a lived-in place comfortable, and getting a property to a standard someone else will inspect. End-of-lease cleaning is the second kind, and the bar is higher.

Pest control

Pests are a health and property issue at once — termites in particular can do structural damage long before anyone notices. Most requests are either an active infestation or a preventative inspection.

Heating and cooling

Heating and cooling tends to fail at the worst moment — the first cold snap or the first heatwave. Regular servicing is the difference between a system that lasts a decade and one that does not.

Appliance repair

Repairing an appliance is often a fraction of replacing it, particularly for built-in ovens and cooktops. The first question is usually whether parts are still available for the model.

Handyman

A handyman is the right call when the list is long but no single item justifies a specialist. Most people save up several small jobs and get them done in one visit.

Property maintenance

Managed properties need maintenance handled on a schedule and documented afterwards. This is recurring work across portfolios rather than one-off repairs, and record-keeping is part of the job.

Glass and glazing

Broken glass is a security and safety problem at the same time, so glazing is often same-day work. Modern replacements also have to meet safety glass requirements.

Building and renovations

Renovations are multi-trade projects where sequencing matters as much as the work itself. These usually start as a quote request rather than a booking, because scope has to be agreed first.

Bricklaying and masonry

Brick and stone work is structural and permanent, which makes repairs to existing masonry as skilled as new builds. Matching old brickwork is often the hardest part.

Joinery and cabinetry

Custom joinery is what makes awkward spaces usable. It is measured, built and fitted to a specific room, so lead times are longer than off-the-shelf alternatives.

Waterproofing

Waterproofing is invisible when it works and expensive when it does not. Failed membranes in bathrooms and balconies are one of the most common causes of hidden structural damage.

Guttering and downpipes

Gutters only matter when it rains hard, which is exactly when a failure causes damage. Overflowing gutters push water back into eaves, walls and ceilings.

Garage doors and gates

A failed garage door is both a security problem and, for most households, a blocked car. Spring and motor failures are the most common causes and are not safe to fix without the right tools.

Rubbish removal

Rubbish removal is usually about volume and access rather than complexity. Deceased estates, renovations and end-of-lease clear-outs generate more than a skip bin can practically handle.

Removalists

Moving is mostly logistics — access, stairs, parking and timing decide how long it takes. Interstate moves and fragile items need planning well before the truck arrives.

Tree and arborist services

Tree work near buildings and power lines is genuinely dangerous and often requires council approval before anything is cut. An arborist report is frequently needed before removal is permitted.

Pool and spa maintenance

Pool maintenance is chemistry plus equipment. Most problems are either water balance or a failing pump, filter or heater — and barrier compliance is a separate legal obligation.

Excavation and earthworks

Earthworks come first on most builds and set up everything after them. Site access, soil type and underground services determine what equipment can actually be used.

Roadside assistance

Roadside problems are about getting moving again safely, wherever you have stopped. Location accuracy matters more than anything else in the request.

Mobile mechanic

A mobile mechanic comes to the car rather than the other way around, which matters when the vehicle will not start. Servicing at home or in a work car park is increasingly the default.

Towing

Towing requests are usually urgent and location-critical. Vehicle type, whether it rolls and where it needs to go all change which truck is suitable.

Solar and home batteries

Licensed

Solar installation is licensed electrical work with its own accreditation requirements and rebate paperwork. System underperformance is the most common reason people call after installation.

Security, CCTV and alarms

Security systems are only as good as their installation and monitoring. Camera placement and network setup decide whether footage is actually usable after an incident.

Other trade

Not every job fits a category neatly, and that is fine. Describe what needs doing and Fixit247 will route the request to Fixers who cover that kind of work.

For planned work

A good trade request explains the result you want, the current condition, access, timing and whether materials or approvals are already arranged.

When the situation is urgent

Use the emergency flow for an active home or roadside problem. Planned installations, maintenance and improvements belong in the standard trade flow.
